Adventure Travel Insurance-Is It Worth It?

By: Paul Stanley

You love adventuring on your holidays. However, what if you get hurt? Does your insurance cover you for injuries that could potentially occur? What about cover for disruptions to your adventure? Below are some reasons why purchasing travel insurance is a good idea.

Before you purchase adventure travel insurance, ensure that the insurance will cover the types of adventuring you have planned for your holiday. There are many options to choose from, so it is important to review all the choices and make the best decision for your type of adventure holiday.

Many people are opting for more adventurous travel vacations, rather than the sedentary vacation on a beach. Whether you are planning on kayaking in the Pacific Ocean, zip lining in Costa Rica, or bungee jumping from a high bridge in South America, it is a good idea to be covered by an adventure insurance policy. The reason for obtaining this type of cover is that the risk for a mishap occurring is higher, and it is better to enter into your adventure knowing you are covered should you have to be evacuated back to your home country, hospitalized, or encounter any other number of incidences.

Each policy is different and there are different levels of cover to choose from—ensure that you research the different types of cover and determine what level you will need based on the type of adventure holiday you are planning. No insurance is a “one size fits all”, so it is imperative to ensure that you have purchased the type of plan that will cover you the most should something occur during your adventure.

There are three main risks that you should consider when researching the level of cover, such as cancellation and delays, loss, theft or damage to possessions, and medical assistance. The cheapest type of cover may not be the right cover you will need on your type of planned adventure holiday. You should compare the different travel insurance companies and the choices of policies offered to ensure you get the right type of cover for your planned adventure, comparing apples to apples.

Cheap travel insurance may not be the best of cover for your planned adventure holiday either. The lowest price does not always mean the most economical—you may end up paying more in excess should an event occur, particularly if you have to be evacuated to your home country for medical care.

Whatever type of adventure travel you embark on, ensure that you are properly covered to so that you can engage in your adventuring worry-free—taking full advantage of the adventuring possibilities that await you on your holiday.
