Caribbean Vacations - the Ideal Getaway?

By: Declan Vickery

Looking for the ideal getaway? The Caribbean may just be everything you are looking for: sun, sand, warm water, and accommodating people. The Caribbean has everything. This article will discuss just a few of the reasons so many people list the Caribbean as their favorite vacation spot and can't wait to go again next year.

The Caribbean generally consists of the group of islands that find their home in the Caribbean Sea. The east coast of Mexico is sometimes considered part of the Caribbean as well, most notably Cancun, Cozumel, and the Mayan Riviera. This area of the world enjoys wonderful weather year round and is one the hot spots for pensioners heading south for the winter, otherwise known as "snowbirds".

With so many islands in the Caribbean, it's hard to pick exactly where to spend your holiday. Each one has its own unique history and flavor. On many of them you will find ruins that draw you in and make you wonder about past civilizations. The ruins at the Mayan Riviera feature archeological sites dating back to the Mayan era. They will fascinate and inspire you, they are so interesting. Some islands, such as Saint Martin/ Sint Maarten are multi-national. This island has both a French half and a Dutch half to explore.

One of the must see spots in the Caribbean are the islands called Guadeloupe, which consists of two islands: Grande- Terre and Basse-Terre. The islands culture is a melting pot of Creole, African and French traditions. Guadeloupe offers visitors wonderful beaches and resorts - but its specialty is its rum! A visit to Guadeloupe island travel, beautiful beaches, out of the way inlets and modern cities.

St. Thomas is another well known Caribbean Island, known by sailors all over the world as one of the great yacht capitals. You can shop for hours and then return to your own villa or a whole resort. Either way you're in for an exotic treat. The capital of St. Thomas is Charlotte Amalie. Here you can sample the fare at a number of restaurants lining the streets and then walk along the boardwalk. If you like staying out all night there are many bars along the coastal waters that will accommodate you.

It doesn't' matter which Caribbean island you decide to visit. You will always find the most gorgeous blue and clean waters under the ever shining sun. Once you visit, you will want to come back often to visit all of the islands.
