Gorilla safari

By: African Trails

There are only about six-hundred and fifty mountain gorillas in the world now and having the chance to see them in the wilds is adventurous and exciting. So make sure that you grab the opportunity to see the mountain gorillas by going on a gorilla safari in the wilds. There is no better place to go on a gorilla safari than Africa. The regions where you can see the mountain gorillas in Africa are Uganda, D.R Congo and Rwanda.

If you are planning to go to Uganda then there are two places where you can see the mountain gorillas and they are Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. In the south western Uganda you will find Bwindi, which houses more than half of the world’s mountain gorillas. The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is publicly known as a World Heritage Site and this park has a tremendously dense rainforest. Here you can also see amazing birds and chimpanzees. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, on the other hand, is not big but you can find gorillas, golden monkeys, bushbuck, buffalo and leopard here.

In case you would be going to Rwanda then you should check out the Virunga National Park, which is also known as the Parc National des Volcans or PNV. You will find that tracking gorillas at the Virunga National Park is not as tiring as the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park because the gorillas at the PNV do not move about as much as the gorillas at the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. I am sure many of you have heard about the attack on the gorillas at the D.R Congo. D.R Congo is another location where you can check out the mountain gorillas.

You should know that seeing the mountain gorillas is not easy and there is no guarantee that you would see them when you go gorilla trekking. The reason for this is that gorillas have the tendency to move about from one location to another so you may not get to see them when you go gorilla trekking. However, you will have more chances of seeing them if you join a tour group. The mountain gorillas that you would see in Africa are used to human beings and this is the reason why you can get close to the gorillas.

When you go on a gorilla safari, make sure that you are equipped with all the necessary items. Take warm clothing with you for it would be cool when you are high up in the mountains. If you are thinking of taking your family with you then you should know that children below the age of fifteen can not go gorilla trekking.

African Trails have organized a number of African tours and gorilla safaris. All the tours are over land and they are quite reasonable too.
