New Mexico: A Great Place to Live

Changing where you live comes with risks. For example, you will need to understand the customs and laws of your new habitat. However, these risks are outweighed by many Americans that want to live in warmer climates that are better for them healthwise. In the past they packed up their bags and moved to Florida and California.

But, as many of us already know, places like California and Florida have seen considerable increases in the cost of living. This can be a particular hardship for persons living on a fixed income which is why people seeking temperate climates have been searching in new locations. Welcome to the charm that is New Mexico.

Prior to uprooting your life and moving to a new situation, you are going to want to know everything you can about the economic situation of that new environment. Even if you are retired and not looking to enter into the work force, you still do not want to enter into a tax system that is strained and struggling to maintain basic social services. So if you are thinking about relocating to New Mexico, here is some useful information about the economy.

New Mexico has an unemployment rate that was 5.7% in 2004. This is slightly higher then the national average, but not by a great amount. Plus, the unemployment rate seems to be decreasing so this information is nothing to be concerned about.

Over a quarter of the jobs in New Mexico are those in the government sector. This is because there are many military facilities which are home to several air bases. Education services placed second as far as being the biggest employer in New Mexico. Construction has a great future in New Mexico since New Mexico is constantly growing. This growth can be demonstrated by the 20% population in the late 20th century.

What environmental attributes does New Mexico have? New Mexico is rich in minerals and has earned a great deal of wealth from this. New Mexico has great salt deposits, potash, manganese, copper ore, and natural gas in great supply. These elements benefit the economny greatly. New Mexico also produces the greatest amount of uranium ore.

New Mexico also plays a role in the modern high tech economy. Los Alamos, New Mexico brings in a great deal of high tech jobs. Besides Los Alamos, most high tech careers are military defense related. In addition, Alburquerque has become the new home of many manufacturing jobs.

New Mexico has not seen tourism in great numbers, however tourists do still take the sights in. Great attractions include the Carlsbad Caverns National Park and the Aztec Ruins National Monument. Visitors flock to these areas.

If New Mexico is a possibility for a new place to live then you can rest easy knowing the economy of New Mexico is just fine. The goverment provides a great number of jobs and the manufacturing sector is strong. The economy is gaining strength. Plus, the scenery is spectacular, not to mention a wonderful climate. These factors make New Mexico a new home to many.
