Relocating to Indianapolis

By: Genna Waistell

When someone is anticipating making a major move where they are relocating 50 miles or more from their present location, a lot of factors must first be carefully weighed. What is the job market like? Are the schools in the area any good? How high is the crime rate and how much of it is made up of violent crimes?

In addition, you need to consider the housing costs. Indeed, housing costs play a major role in the decision-making process because they can be very high, especially in the major cities. You may not be able to find a place to live near your anticipated work place.

Once you’ve considered all the factors, you will find Indianapolis to be a great place to relocate to. The housing costs in Indianapolis are in line with national averages, and there are great schools, and a very respectable crime rate. From all respects Indianapolis is one of the greatest cities in the country to call home.

There are a number of employment opportunities in the Indianapolis area. A number of major corporations have operations in the Indy area including Eli Lily and General Motors. The finance and insurance industries are also quite strong in Indianapolis so there are ample opportunities in the professional fields as well. In fact, the Indianapolis economy is very diversified so chances are that you will have little trouble finding something in a field you love.

Considering Indianapolis has nearly 800,000 people, the housing costs are very reasonable although the real estate market is really hot. You can get a respectable apartment at a reasonable cost in one of the many communities and corporate housing areas.

Indianapolis can rightfully boast of a top notch public school system. It also offers several options for those interested in higher and continuing education. Butler University, located in the heart of the city, is a fine institution with some of the state’s best college graduates. There are also the state’s top universities like Purdue and IU, plus many other opportunities for higher education.

Another great thing about Indianapolis is the surprisingly light traffic except during rush hour. Indianapolis has many alternate routes into the city other than the Interstates. So, it’s relatively easy to get in and out of Indy once you become familiar with the area. Even if you have to commute 20 miles daily you can do it in 30-35 minutes.

Moreover, Indianapolis is not only good from the point of view of economic and educational growth, it is also a great place to meet people and enjoy life. It has football and basketball sports complexes, and everything you could ever need to have a good time. If you are thinking of relocating in the near future, it’s a good idea to explore all that Indianapolis has to offer.
