Places to Take the Kids in Melbourne

Australia’s second largest city and the capital of the state of Victoria, Melbourne, is a brilliant place to spend with your family. While it is better known for being a popular sports destination with various tennis, rugby, golf and Formula 1 events, there are some great attractions to keep the kids entertained. Below are some of the following that your kids will love.

Melbourne Zoo

As an important city in Australia it is no surprise that Melbourne has its very own zoo.

The Melbourne Zoo houses over 300 different species of animals and not just ones native to the country. Animals such as elephants, orang-utans and mountain gorillas all reside here and will thrill the kids as they wander round the zoo. Not only this, but the zoo also hosts educational and interactive sessions to help children and adults alike understand more about the animals that live there.

Royal Botanical Gardens

The biggest park in Melbourne and in a great location, the Royal Botanical Gardens is home to over 50,000 species of plants and trees. The park is free to enter and is a fantastic place for the family to relax outdoors. There is also a Children’s Garden which is a very interactive part of the gardens. Children will be able to play with one another while also taking care of plants and is sure to keep them occupied for hours. Fresh fruit and vegetables are also offered to the children that come here.

Healsville Sanctuary

Located in Yarra Valley, a short trip out of the city centre, the Healsville Sanctuary is a great place to bring the kids so that they can get up close to some of Australia’s native species, while specializing in rescuing and treating wild animals. At the sanctuary, your children will have the opportunity to watch as well as pet animals such as the koalas while also learning about the dangers these species face.  The sanctuary runs several tours and educating workshops which shows visitors how the centre works.

The Enchanted Maze Garden

An award winning natural attraction, the Enchanted Maze Garden is a kid’s wonderland of mazes in the outdoor. Not only can the children run around the maze garden itself, the site also houses tube slides, a 3D indoor maze and various extensive gardens for the adults to relax on while their youngsters play. Be sure to book your flights to Melbourne in the summer time to enjoy the sEnchanted Maze Garden.

Leisurelink Aquatic Park

The Leisurelink Aquatic Park has something for all ages. Children will love splashing around the various pools in the park while there are 2 slides they can zip down. There are also water cannons and a section of floor covered in rubber that shoots water randomly at the children playing there. The site also has a state of the art gym with saunas and spa so that the adults can enjoy a relaxing break while their children play in the pool area.
