Most of us know a little about Barbados because of the popularity of cricket. It’s a West Indian island country some 20 miles long and 14 miles wide and forms part of the Lesser Antilles island chain. The island is renowned for the friendliness and warmth of its people, something which most visitors realise very quickly within moments of arriving. The principal city is Bridgetown, the country’s capital, home to around 80,000 people. The island as a whole has just under some 300,000 inhabitants. English is the main language and although independent now for nearly half a century, the island is still part of the British Commonwealth with Queen Elizabeth II head of state.

Sandy Lane, located on the island’s beautiful west coast famed for its beaches and sparkling blue waters, is a hotel like no other, offering a range of rooms, suites and a fabulous villa. The villa has five spacious and stately rooms with furnishings of the highest quality. It is situated in the heart of the resort, all within its own beautiful gardens. If you’re looking for perfect peace and seclusion then you’ve found it. And yes, the villa comes complete with its own team of dedicated staff who are always ready to fulfil your every whim. Fabulous.

The penthouse suites are simply gorgeous and set amidst beautiful gardens. They’ve got everything you could wish for, from the large foyer and spacious living room to a patio with a stunning dining area. There’s a superbly equipped kitchen, a main bedroom with a bathroom featuring a whirlpool tub, and a further bedroom with a suite bathroom. It all has to be seen to be believed.

The one-bedroom Dolphin Suite will have you wondering whether you’re actually in a hotel at all, such is the quality on offer. Space, the richness of the décor and the fact the room’s expansive balcony overlooks the warm inviting waters of the Caribbean all add up to an experience of magical proportions.

Kids and holidays can sometimes be a bit of a problem for parents if there’s little for them to do. But at Sandy Lane that’s certainly not the case. The Treehouse Club looks after the children while you relax and enjoy the pleasures of a holiday of a lifetime, content in the knowledge they’ll be having a great time, too, meeting new friends and enjoying all kinds of exciting supervised activities.

And if your holiday happens to coincide with Easter, Christmas or New Year celebrations then children have an especially fun time. At Easter, there’s egg decorating, an Easter Bonnet Parade, lawn games and a giant egg hunt. Christmas sees the kids helping decorate the tree or taking part in a candy-cane hunt, the popular annual sandcastle building competition on Christmas Day and posing for photographs with Santa. New Year’s Eve is celebrated with a special ‘cocktail’ party and New Year’s Day with the Treehouse Club Carnival!
